Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 15: In a significant feat for Indian rail infrastructure, Translite Scaffolding contributed critical engineered systems to enable the successful launch of the longest open-web steel girder rail flyover in Maharashtra. Executed by TATA Projects Ltd. under the DFCCIL’s JNPT–Nilje freight corridor, the project involved an innovative radial-slew launch across operational railway lines — a first-of-its-kind method in India.
While Translite did not manufacture or erect the primary open-web steel girder, its specialized systems formed the backbone of this complex launch. The company was responsible for designing and supplying custom high-precision launching beams, engineered to handle extreme loads with optimized camber control for perfect longitudinal alignment. In addition, precision-machined trussel heads were developed to accommodate differential loading during incremental launching while minimizing point stress and structural deflection.
The project’s scope also included end-to-end site coordination. Translite’s engineering team actively supported the erection crew with alignment checks, staging procedures, and live technical assistance during critical phases of the launch. This hands-on involvement ensured smooth execution despite the highly compressed timeline.
The girder spanned approximately 110 to 110.5 meters in length and weighed nearly 1,650 tons. It was successfully launched across a 34-meter shift distance using the radial-slew technique, completed across four midnight traffic blocks authorized by Central Railway. All critical support structures were delivered within a fast-track manufacturing window of just 45 days. Third-party inspections verified zero deviation during load transfer and launch — a testament to the precision and reliability of Translite’s systems.
According to a Senior Project Manager at TATA Projects, “Translite’s systems demonstrated outstanding precision and reliability, significantly de-risking the project’s heavy launch operations.”
The project marks a major advancement in rail-based freight infrastructure in Maharashtra, expected to significantly boost cargo connectivity and industrial throughput in the region. Translite’s involvement reinforces its position as a trusted partner for custom formwork and heavy-duty launch systems in some of the most challenging infrastructure projects nationwide.
Translite Scaffolding continues to support modern construction through its ISO-certified facilities, an engineering-led design approach, and specialized focus on metros, highways, and industrial structures. Its contributions to this flagship freight corridor exemplify how tailored fabrication and field-tested engineering can drive safe and efficient execution at scale.
